Driving snow and cold, with good meals thrown in.
The Geezers left the motel in Athens, Tennessee this morning, stopping at Murphy’s Eatz & Sweetz to fill up on grits, eggs, bacon, sausage, home fries, and biscuits with apple butter.
It was snowing hard and the road was slushy until we were well into Alabama. We put in 9 hours on the road and made it to Gulf Islands National Seashore in Mississippi. A call home let us know that it was 45 degrees and sunny in Albany – 1400+ miles driving south and it’s 10 degrees colder here!
After setting up camp, we treated ourselves to more local sans-chain eating with a visit to Aunt Jenny’s Catfish House. A dinner of crisp catfish fillets and locally-caught shrimp was topped off with banana pudding.
Tomorrow we’ll explore coastal ol’ Miss, if we don’t freeze first.
